Run for the Roses 2007
News around town…said “It was a blast!”
Article by Sharon Fields
May 5th was the 4th Annual “Run For The Roses” at Good Hope Equestrian Training Center, Inc. located 22155 SW 147th Ave. This fundraiser brings all the sights and sounds of the Kentucky Derby to South Florida, while aiding the Center in providing equine-related programs to children, youth and adults with varying disabilities. The community was entertained by horse races from all over the nation as they sipped mint julips awaiting a delious buffet dinner. The winning hat for the Hat Contest was topped with Horses of course. The excitement of the event was also enjoyed by Morning Anchor of CBS4 news Jorge Estevez who served as the emcee of the event. Our thanks to him for his enthusiasm and his willingness to serve GHETC. HBO came out to Good Hope and did a story about Horse Therapy and the accomplishments the clients have made concerning their disabilities. This HBO story was viewed on wide screen at Good Hope and it was hard to find a dry eye anywhere while watching these beautiful people meet the challenges they face. We met Alexxis age 7 who just shines when she talks about Oreo the horse she rides at Good Hope. Alexxis’ therapy is helping to strengthen her trunk control while she learns to balance herself on the back of the horse she loves. Good Hopes Founder Nan Brooks and Executive Director Peggy Bass wish to extend and invitation to the community to join us next year for Run For the Roses. Brooks and Bass wish to thank all of the the event committee along with Jorge Estevez CBS4 Anchor, Leslie Spinella Miss Homestead, Carlos Aearmas from Barcardi & the Beautiful Bacardi Girls, the band Phat Eddy & the “B” Shift Destroyers (all are firefighters) and the numerous others who donated their time and energy to make this fundraising event a success. Mark your calendar for the 5th Annual Run For The Roses to be held on May 3, 2008.
