Volunteer Opportunities & Enrollment/Training Documentation

Conceivably the primary and principal advantage people get from volunteering is the pleasure of incorporating service into their lives and making a difference in their community. The intangible benefits alone are vast.  These perks include pride, satisfaction and accomplishment & are worthwhile reasons to come out and make a difference in the lives of the disabled.

Equine Assisted Activities (EAA) relies heavily on volunteers and community support to survive. Volunteering at the Good Hope Equestrian Training Center, Inc. is enjoyable, gratifying, and moving, not to mention a great overall physical workout. Time is a valuable resource and a priceless gift that you can give. Volunteering has the power to forever change a person’s life.  Your time will help mentally and physically challenged individuals succeed at tasks never dreamed possible. Volunteer Requirements:

¬Be physically fit enough to walk, and occasionally jog, for one hour.

¬Must be at least fourteen years of age.

¬Attend the volunteer training and master the components of the role.

¬We ask volunteers to commit to at least one weekly session. This ensures the necessary number of volunteers for each class, and also creates the opportunity for special friendships to form between riders and volunteer teams through regular contact.


Duties (depending on your experience/abilities & training):

¬ Horse Handler

¬ Side Walker (Some riders require only your presence; others require additional supports)

¬ Aid with mounting and dismounting

¬ Assist with grooming, tacking and untacking horses

Other Pertinent Volunteer Duties: 

If horses are not your cup of tea, there are lots of other ways you can contribute and make a difference in the life of a disabled child, youth or adult.

¬Organize a fundraiser

¬Plan & coordinate with fundraising activities

¬Arrange and coordinate our horse show schedules and exhibition

¬Serve on our board of directors

¬Handy with tools? There are always things around the farm that need fixing and/or installing

¬Lend a hand with grant writing and proposal development

¬Assist with other administrative duties


Prior to the implementation of your volunteer work, we will need you to  complete the following forms:

- Volunteer Application

- Volunteer Release

- Authorization for Emergency Medical Treatment Form


In addition to the completion of the forms, we have the following volunteer resources for your review.  These documents will assist you to better understand varying disabilities and the various roles of our service volunteers.  The following GHETC volunteer tools should be reviewed before you begin your start date, so you are prepared for the next phase of your volunteerism, hands on training.
